Congratulations she is beautiful! I saw your blog on RQ. We were LID 1/9/06 but switched to SN and returned home from China a month ago. I saw that you are from NJ, my husband is from Middletown, NJ but we live here in England. (I am British).
Hope you have a wonderful trip over to meet your daughter.... you have waited so long!!!
Hi Congratulations on your Gong girl!! My daughter Haley Ping is from Pingnan also- adopted 6/11/2007. She is wonderful. Her name was Gong Ping Hong. Many of the pingnan babies are in foster care through Grace Hope project -my daughter was and my agency had no idea- their US coordinator is on the list- if you sign up for the gong families yahoo group and post her info her foster sponsors may be able to send you reports and pictures. The group is unfortuntaley dominated by a woman named Medenne who is obsessed with bashing Pingnan orphanage so dont let her freak you out. Congratulations:) Mary
I traveled to China with my sister when she picked up her youngest daughter who was born in Pingnan. Kianna is a joy and has been home with us almost 3 years. I loved the trip!
I guess first off I should explain the title "about one year". We started trying to build a family in 2004 and thought that we'd have our first child in "about one year". Things happened, plans changed and we started the process of an adoption from China. When we began, things were moving very quickly and we were told by our agency that if we were diligent about completing our paperwork quickly that we would be home with our newly adopted child in "about one year". Our dossier was logged in to the CCAA (which is China's central adoption authority) on 3/21/06. By then the slowdown had started so we were told that instead of the 6 month wait from log in that we originally were told, that we'd have our child home in "about one year".
Each month that passed with little or no referrals happening made me more convinced that China's adoption program either wasn't going to happen at all, or would take a very long time. But I was consistantly told that this slowdown was an anomoly and that we'd have our child home in "about one year".
So eventually I became convinced that our path must be elsewhere so we looked into switching our plan. We started the process of adopting from Vietnam as a "concurrent adoption" to China. We completed all our paperwork very quickly and got logged in to Vietnam on 3/20/07 ... exactly 1 day short of a year after our dossier was logged in to China.
Thankfully that adoption actually took "about one year"! And in January 2008 we brought home our wonderful son Ben.
Now, 3 years and 4 months to the day of our China LID of 3/21/06, referrals are starting for our date. That was one heck of a long year.
